RIO LINDA, CA - Human remains were unearthed in a field in Rio Linda Tuesday.
Sacramento County sheriff's personnel were told Monday about the possibility of a person buried in a field on the 7500 block of 34th Street, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos. Detectives investigated and confirmed enough information to send search and rescue canines to location. The dogs honed in on a suspicious scent where detectives discovered a makeshift grave, Ramos said. Criminalists were also called in and the grave was excavated, revealing human remains.
Ramos said the reporting party also provided information about a man possibly responsible for the death of the buried body. Detectives corroborated that information and arrested 47-year-old William Olsen on suspicion of murder, Ramos said.
Investigators did not say how the person may have died or how long the remains had been buried.
Ramos did add that detectives were looking into the possibility the victim was a person reported as missing outside of Sacramento County.
The suspect, Olsen, was already in Sacramento County Jail. He had been arrested and booked on an auto theft charge on Monday, Ramos said.
Olsen is ineligible for bail.
