KINGS COUNTY, CA - A Hughson man who worked as a nurse practitioner is in jail on booking charges he sexually assaulted patients at the medical clinic where he was employed.
Avenal police say they began an investigation on an accusation made last November that Jeffer Sabino had sexually assaulted a young female patient he saw at Avenal Health Medical Clinic. The detective handling the case and the Kings County District Attorney's Office allege the suspect sexually assaulted four victims over a two-year period.
Sabino also had contact with patients in Kettleman City and Stratford, police investigators said.
"It appears that Mr. Sabino may have targeted young Hispanic females believing that their credibility might be questioned should they complain to the authorities," said Avenal Police Chief Jack Amoroso in a statement.
Sabino was arrested Thursday. The police department and the D.A.'s office continue to look into whether there are additional victims.
Bail was set at $1,300,000 for Sabino who is accused fo 36 counts of sexual assault.
