SUTTER COUNTY, CA - The California Highway Patrol says two teens died when the Mazda they were in drifted into the path of a Winnebago on Riego Road Sunday.
The 10 a.m. collision killed a 17-year-old boy from Loomis and a 19-year-old teen from Elk Grove at the scene, said Officer Jodie Beck with the Yuba Sutter Californa Highway Patrol. The third person in the Mazda, the 20-year-old driver from Rocklin, was critically injured and transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
The Mazda was in the eastbound lane of Riego Road east of Highway 99, said Beck. It crossed the center line and the front passenger side collided with the front passenger of the RV. The impact sent the Mazda into a roadside ditch.
The two people inside of the Winnebago had minor injuries, Beck said.
All parties were wearing their seatbelts.
It wasn't known if alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
