STOCKTON, CA - The owners of In-Shape Health Clubs never saw an empty building that couldn't become another fitness facility.
The next club to open, late next week, is at March Lane and Pershing Avenue in Stockton, where John's Incredible Pizza used to entertain kids at birthday parties.
"We never stop trying to improve. (In addition to Stockton) Modesto, Tracy, Bakersfield, Santa Maria, Vacaville and the Concord area. Where people are driving, we're there for them," said company spokesperson Rob Farrens.
With the new Stockton location and another club about to be opened at a former Lodi grocery store, In-shape is close to having 70 clubs that employ close to 4,000 people.
While Farrens said it's the affordability and family atmosphere that make In-shape successful, workout partners Brandon Bearce and Denise Ruiz appreciate something else.
"It's super clean compared to other gyms. The sanitation is way above the other guys," said Bearce.
"You come here, you always see people cleaning," said Ruiz.
Farrens wouldn't release sales or profit numbers, but did say, with nearly 70 health clubs, In-shape is ranked in the top 10 of fitness chains.
