  • Man captured on video stealing package from south Sacramento woman's porch.

SACRAMENTO- A south Sacramento woman says a precious package stolen from her front doorstep contains a symbol of her hard work for the past six years.

Melissa Watts says a stranger swiped the package just minutes after a postal carrier dropped it off. "I was really upset. I was shaking," said Watts. "I've worked hard for this. It's not fair for some thug to just say oh look, a package, and grab it.

Watts is getting her masters degree in Business Administration this September. Her master's cap, gown, and tassel were delivered to her front doorstep on 44th street in South Sacramento Saturday afternoon.

Surveillance video shows the thief in action.

According to the video, nine minutes after the package was dropped it off, a man pulled up in a dark green minivan with tinted windows and no front license plate. He looked around to make sure no one was watching, grabbed the package and then took off.

The man was captured on camera wearing loose baggy jeans and a neon green shirt. He has a shaved head, a scruffy five o'clock shadow and a sleeved tattoo on his left arm. He also has a tattoo on his right forearm.

Watts just wants her package back. She says the suspect will probably toss the contents of her package, instead of trying to sell it online.

Watts has already filed a report with the sheriff's department and plans to put up flyers with pictures of the suspect. She hopes the surveillance video on the news and some help from social media can help find him.
