YUBA COUNTY, CA - A baby girl was found dead in a Yuba County motel room Wednesday.
Yuba County sheriff's deputies responded to the motel on the 800 block of N. Beale Road to investigate the death of the 11-day-old girl. Deputies also found a 5-year-old boy who was living in the motel room several days before the baby girl's death.
Sheriff Steven L. Durfor said when deputies searched the motel room, they found drug paraphernalia, hypodermic needles, plastic baggies, scales and other items consistent with drug sales. Deputies also found an uncapped, fully exposed needle with a substance that appeared to be heroine, on the ground and easily accessible to the boy.
On Wednesday, deputies arrested Jenifer Marie Sierra, 27, for outstanding warrants. On Thursday, following an additional investigation, Sierra was arrested for felony child endangerment.
The sheriff's department said an autopsy was done on the 11-day-old girl to determine the cause of death. The autopsy results are pending more medical analysis.
