MODESTO, CA - A Modesto high school teacher who left his wife for one of his students will spend six months in jail for a previous relationship involving another student.
James Hooker agreed to a plea bargain as jury selection was beginning for a trial that could have sent him to prison for up to 10 years.
Hooker's relationship with Jordan Powers, who was 18 by the time he left his wife and teaching job to live with her, made national headlines last year.

That scandal brought forward another student lover of his who said, in 1998, she was only 17 when they had sex.
Hooker and Jordan are still together. She accompanied him Monday to Stanislaus County Courthouse for what was expected to be jury selection on the single felony charge.
But Hooker decided to plead no contest to a lesser, misdemeanor charge of lewd and lascivious acts with a child that will result in him serving 180 days in the county jail.
He'll also be required to register as a sex offender.
