FAIRFIELD, Calif. - A 36-year-old Fairfield man died as a result of a shooting in Fairfield Wednesday night.
Fairfield police officers responded to the 2300 block of Peach Tree Dr. around 10 p.m. following reports of a loud fight and a possible shot fired near an apartment complex, said Lt. Greg Hurlbut.
Responding officers found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. An ambulance arrived at the scene and transported the man to a local hospital where he died despite a lengthy effort by doctors to save his life, said Hurlbut.
An ensuing investigation revealed a struggle occurred between the victim and several other people. During the encounter, at least one gunshot was fired, hitting the man. The struggle continued for another few moments before the individuals fled the scene on foot.
