MODESTO, CA - A man died early Friday morning after being shot in a west Modesto neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
Modesto police responded to the 100 block of Maple Street around 2 p.m. after getting a call about a shooting.
Sgt. Ivan Valencia said when officers arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. As they waited for EMTs, officers began CPR. The man was then taken to the hospital by medical personnel.
The man, identified as Sir Jay Louis Taylor, 25, of Modesto, was pronounced dead at the hospital around 3 a.m. Friday.
Witnesses told police they saw two men running from the area after hearing gunshots. Valencia said it is unclear how, or if, the two men were involved in the shooting.
The motive behind the shooting is unclear, Valencia said.
