Earthquake in Greenville felt all the way to Stockton

A magnitude 5.7 Earthquake hit Greenville, Calif. around 8:47 p.m., according to the USGS.

The epicenter was about 6.9 miles northwest of the Greenville, in Plumas County.

An aftershock of magnitude 3.5 hit around 8:55 p.m. A second aftershock of magnitude 2.6 hit around 9:04 p.m.

Initially, USGS reported the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.9, but downgraded the magnitude to 5.7 a few minutes later.

Cities near Greenville also felt aftershocks of the quake:

  • Westwood, Calif. - magnitude 2.6 around 9:07 p.m.
  • Chester, Calif. - magnitude 3.4 around 9:08 p.m.
  • Greenville, Calif. - magnitude 2.8 around 9:09 p.m.

From 9:23 p.m. to 9:44 p.m., Greenville felt six additional aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 2.6 to 2.8.

Another nine aftershocks were felt from 9:58 p.m. to 10:40 p.m. with magnitudes ranging from 2.7 to 3.6.

Greenville is about 146 miles north of Sacramento; about 193 miles north of Stockton.
