SAN ANDREAS, CA - The 12-year-old Valley Springs boy accused of stabbing his sister to death just over two weeks ago in Valley Springs, was arraigned Wednesday on a second-degree murder charge.

The boy appeared in a San Andreas court with chains around his waist, and with his hair shorter than it was when he appeared at a vigil for his sister, Leila Fowler, two weeks ago. At that time investigators were telling the community they were searching for a man with long gray hair, seen by the boy running from the murder scene.

Then exactly two weeks after the murder, the boy was arrested in connection with the killing.

The arraignment took about 15 minutes, and the boy was asked several times by the judge if he understood the charges against him. Each time the boy answered yes. The judge announced at the close of the hearing that the boy would remain in custody.

Relatives of the boy and girl, who were in court to watch the arraignment, did not comment after the hearing.

The next hearing is scheduled for May 29th, also in San Andreas.
