PLACER COUNTY, CA - A Colfax man who admitted he shot his romantic partner in the back, killing her and their unborn child, will be sentenced to 19 years, 8 months to life.
That is the plea deal 37-year-old Lee Martin Konnerth reached with Placer County prosecutors in the May 15, 2011 murder of Sarah Lynn Burr and the couple's baby.
Konnerth and Burr were known to have a volatile relationship, according to Assistant District Attorney Jeff Wilson.
Per court records, Burr and her two daughters were living at the home of Konnerth's father near Colfax. In the course of an argument between Konnerth and Burr that night at the home, the defendant got a hunting knife and Burr retrieved a large kitchen knife. As she tried to leave out the front door of the home, she was shot from behind by Konnerth. Burr and her fetus died at the scene.
Konnerth will be formally sentenced July 17 on two counts of second degree murder and several related charges, the county district attorney's office says.
