MODESTO, Calif. - A Modesto man was killed Monday morning when he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a nut tree.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Matt Radke said the man was driving a 1988 Chevy Celebrity northbound on Morrow Road at approximately 4:25 a.m. when he made an "unsafe" turning movement to the right and lost control. The car veered off the shoulder north of Bangs Ave. and the driver's side of the vehicle slammed into an almond tree.
The man sustained major injuries from the impact. Arriving emergency responders transported him to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto where he was later pronounced deceased, said Radke.
According to Radke, alcohol and/or drugs may have been a contributing factor in the wreck.
The investigation into the crash remains open.
