Legendary NFL halfback Barry Sanders will grace the cover of this year's Madden video game, known as Madden NFL 25, from EA Sports.  Sanders is the second Detroit Lion in as many seasons to be featured on the cover of the pro-football video game after wide receiver Calvin Johnson made it onto the cover of Madden NFL 13.  He is technically also the second retired player given such an honor.

The last time a retired NFL player made the cover of EA Sports' Madden NFL video game, he came out of retirement to play a few more seasons.  That was Madden NFL 09 and featured the retired Green Bay Packer turned unretired New York Jet quarterback Brett Favre.  A post-Madden cover comeback is a little less likely for Sanders, who retired in 1998 after amassing more than 15,000 rushing yards and 109 career touchdowns - all with Detroit.

Titled Madden NFL 25 to commemorate the franchise's 25th anniversary, the game is expected to release on August 28 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360. The ESRB has not yet rated this title.
