ROSEVILLE, CA - The Rocklin couple who owned the Advanced Medical Spa were arraigned Monday on 41 charges including grand theft and mayhem.
Dr. Efrain Gonzalez and Dr. Yessennia Candelaria were also charged with conspiring to allow three staff members to practice medicine without a license.
The complaint names 15 victims by their initials and said they were unlawfully and maliciously disfigured.
Gonzalez pleaded not guilty. Candelaria was allowed a two-week delay to give her time to hire an attorney.
The charges are the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the Medical Board of California, Franchise Tax Board, Drug Enforcement Administration and the Placer County district attorney.
Gonzalez opened the Rocklin practice after having his license to practice medicine in Puerto Rico suspended in 2007.
