MODESTO, Calif. - A 42-year-old Turlock man was killed Monday morning when his vehicle was struck by an SUV that failed to stop at a stop sign, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officer Eric Parsons said Oscar Ibarra, 22, of Oakdale was driving a 2011 Jeep Compass northbound on Bentley Rd. at approximately 7 a.m. when he came upon the intersection of Claribel Rd.
At the same time, the unidentified victim was heading westbound on Claribel Rd. in a 1999 Toyota Corolla.
Ibarra failed to halt at a posted stop sign, drove into the intersection and hit the left side of the Corolla, said Parsons.
Responding emergency personnel pronounced the driver of the Corolla dead at the scene.
According to Parsons, neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be a factor in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
