Sacramento police have arrested two gang members in connection with the shooting death of a Sacramento man over the weekend.
Gilbert Villalobos and Anthony Pruitt, both 20 years old and from Rio Linda, were arrested and charged with homicide in the shooting death of 23-year-old Alejandro Villalobos early Saturday morning, according to Sacramento police. Both Pruitt and Gilbert Villalobos (no relation to the victim) are validated gang members, according to police. Both have also been charged with committing a felony with the intent to benefit a street gang. Villalobos was also charged with being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
Police believe Alejandro Villalobos was killed during a dispute between two groups at a party on Burberry Way in north Sacramento. Words were exchanged, and the suspects pulled out guns and began firing, striking the victim in the torso, according to investigators.
After the shooting, friends and family members tried to take Villalobos to a hospital when their car was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer at 3550 Marysville Boulevard at about 1:36 a.m. for a traffic violation. Paramedics arrived and Villalobos was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Sacramento Police Department’s Street Gang Suppression Unit, Career Criminal Apprehension Team and SWAT Team worked together to identify and arrest Gilbert Villalobos and Pruitt.
