CARMICHAEL, Calif. - Sacramento County sheriff's deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing of a man inside his Carmichael home Wednesday night.

Deputies were dispatched to the home in the area of Coyle Ave. and Hesper Wy. at approximately 11:11 p.m. and discovered 65-year-old Roy Shier sustaining an undisclosed number of stab wounds, said sheriff's spokesman Jason Ramos.

Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced Shier dead from his injuries.

Witnesses at the scene told deputies Kenneth Azlin, 26, who is a relative of Shier's wife, was behind the attack and had fled the scene shortly before authorities arrived, said Ramos.

A perimeter was established and a search was subsequently launched in the area with the assistance of K9 units and air support.

Shortly thereafter, Azlin was located on the grounds of a nearby elementary school and taken into custody without incident.  A knife, believed to have been the murder weapon, was then found on the campus, Ramos said.

Azlin was booked into the Sacramento County main jail on a charge of murder.

The motive for the stabbing was still under investigation, according to Ramos.
