SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Highway Patrol and Sacramento police took a man into custody Thursday morning following a police pursuit that began in the Rancho Cordova area.
The chase began near Coloma Road and Folsom Boulevard at approximately 11:30 a.m., said authorities. Rancho Cordova police reported spotting a man suspected of robbing a local bank a few weeks ago and attempting to stop his car. The driver took off.
Police lost the driver in south Sacramento for a short time but the CHP found him. Officers reported the driver struck a vehicle at northbound Interstate 5 and Florin Road, but continued on before crashing as he exited the northbound J Street off-ramp in downtown Sacramento.
The chase lasted less than half an hour.
Officers recovered a firearm from the car, said a Sacramento County sheriff's lieutenant at the scene.
CHP arrested Andre Rushing, 23; a passenger in the car was questioned by authorities and then released.
