Friends gather to remember Josiah Humprheys.
SACRAMENTO- More than 100 people turned out to remember a midtown Sacramento man who was beaten to death a few feet from his apartment building this past weekend.
Sacramento police were still searching for the three people suspected of beating 28-year-old Josiah Humphreys to death early Sunday morning. The attack was near 18th and P streets around 1 a.m. as Humphreys was walking home alone from a nearby bar. The attack happened just a few feet from his apartment building.
A friend, who doesn't want to be identified, was with Humphreys the night of the attack. He said Humphreys decided to head home first, while a group of friends headed onto another bar.

Monday night, friends, family, and community members gathered to pay tribute to Humphreys.

Kevin Nan knew Humphreys from high school.
"He was just really fun, great sense of humor, just amazing guy," said Nan.
A person climbed a ladder to hang a cowboy hat on a streetlight at the growing tribute. Friends explained that Humphreys, a guy full of personality, loved to wear cowboy hats.
Those who knew Humphreys best say he "lived his life as a Jesuit to a 'T.'" Humphreys graduated from Jesuit High School back in 2003.
"He was a 'man for others' no matter what. If you were down, he was there for you," said Nick Tuelleners.
Friends and loved ones were still confused how Humphreys could have been brutally attacked.
"I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me at all. I'm shocked. I think everyone else here is in disbelief. It's so cliché. But he really is the last guy you expect something like that to happen to," said David Grega, another friend.
"If they want any time of reconciliation, man up and turn themselves in," said Tuelleners of the suspected attackers. "These guys aren't men. They're monsters."
Sacramento police were not releasing descriptions of the assailants or details about the investigation. They urged anyone with information to come forward.
