SACRAMENTO, CA - A mother and daughter entered guilty pleas to a string of burglaries and will each receive an eight-year prison term at their sentencing next month, says a Sacramento County district attorney spokesperson.
Helen Costello and daughter Shirley Costello were accused of targeting elderly residents in the Tahoe Park, Arden Arcade and Meadowview neighborhoods, said D.A. spokesperson Shelly Orio. Their ploy was go up to potential victims and act like a former neighbor or pretend they were thinking of buying in the neighborhood or buying a used car. They would gain entrance to the resident's home and one would distract the victim while the other stole valuables.
In one case, the women asked if the child with them could use the bathroom so they could get into the residence and burglarize it, Sacramento police said.
The pair pled to five counts of felony burglary.
