CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - A woman was injured and two pets died in a Citrus Heights apartment fire Thursday afternoon.
The fire started around 2:30 p.m. in a ground floor apartment on the 5800 block of Sunrise Vista Drive, Sacramento Metro Fire Capt. Kim Fong said.
When crews arrived on scene, a firefighter broke a bedroom window of the unit on fire, entered the unit and rescued the woman trapped inside. Fong said the woman was transported to a burn unit with critical injuries.
A cat and a dog died in the fire.
Fong said the unit where the fire started was damaged and three other units suffered smoke and/or water damage. The flames were contained to the one apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
