MODESTO, CA - Six people were arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 20-year-old man in a northeast Modesto neighborhood on Thursday night.
Modesto police responded to the 2400 block of Vera Cruz Drive around 8:38 p.m. after getting reports of a shooting. At the scene police found Erick Gomez suffering from several gunshot wounds, Lt. Rick Armendariz said. Gomez was taken to the hospital where he later died.
According to Armendariz, Gomez was walking in the area when he was confronted by a group of men and women in separate vehicles. The group got out of their cars and got into an argument with Gomez, which soon turned physical. At some point during the fight, someone in the group shot the man several times, and then the group drove away from the scene.
While officers were at the scene of the shooting, Modesto police received a call of a 17-year-old girl who had arrived at an area hospital with critical stab wounds. Officers responded and spoke with several of the girl's friends who had brought her to the hospital.
Investigators believe the stabbing victim and her friends were responsible in the shooting death of Gomez, Armendariz said. However, it is unclear how the teen was stabbed.
Friday afternoon officers arrested:
- Nancy Rodriguez, 18, from Modesto
- Jeanette Robles, 20, from Modesto
- Elida Carranza, 21, from Modesto
- Jesse James Sebourn, 20, from Ceres
- Lisandro Mendoza, 20, from Winton
- Jenna Cheyenne Sebourn, 20, from San Mateo
All the suspects were charged with homicide, conspiracy and committing a crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang, Armendariz said.
Homicide and gang detectives continue to investigate the incident, process the evidence collected from the crime scene and interview witnesses.
