SACRAMENTO- "Here We Buy" night was about packing as many fans as possible into Sleep Train Arena on Saturday. For fans, it was about passion, pride, and about coming out in full force to show the NBA Sacramento's true colors.
Fans were fired up. They were pumped. Even before the big game against the Utah Jazz started, nearly 200 people were on hand for a special "Here We Buy" tailgate party. Among them were, "Crown Downtown" and "Here We Stay" members.
"I think it shows that community wants it. It shows that the people are behind it. It's not all about big money. It's about the common folks," said fan Evil Debono.
Thousands of fans flocked to Sleep Train Arena Saturday night in a unified effort to prove to the NBA that Sacramento is a viable basketball market. It was a chance to prove once and again they're the greatest fans in the NBA. And, it was a chance to show the NBA, Sacramento is not giving up hope on their beloved team, even if the King's future is up in the air.
"We just want to get out here and show our love for the city of Sacramento, and we want to keep the Kings here," said fan Stephen Wagman.
Local grassroots movements joined forces to try to fill Sleep Train Arena on Saturday and they came pretty close to their goal. 16,193 of an available 17,317 tickets were sold. And while "Here We Buy" may not seal the deal in keeping the Kings in Sacramento, many fans hope it will help change some minds.
