MODESTO, CA - A mother of a student at Fremont Elementary School said her 5th grade daughter was one of several students targeted in a "kill list" allegedly written by a classmate.

Bernita McKinney said she's concerned because it's not the first incident involving the student who wrote it. She is also worried the school isn't doing enough about it.

McKinney is also upset because she had to learn about the alleged list from her daughter. McKinney said the list was discovered on Wednesday and the school failed to notify her.

The school sent a note home to parents on Friday. The note said they don't have reason to believe anyone is in danger. It also said police were notified.

According to McKinney, the student who wrote the alleged list is a 4th grader and targeted several children, including her daughter, Desiree. The two are in a combined 4th and 5th grade class.

McKinney said this alleged "kill list" is the latest in a series of violent incidents involving the same student. Desiree said she has been victimized by the same student before.

"I'm not sure I'm really safe because already four other incidents have happened at school," Desiree McKinney said.

"How do you let them know they're safe when, as far as she's concerned, students are being slapped on the hand for stuff like this," Bernita McKinney added.

Mckinney said she does not know what has happened to the student who allegedly wrote the list, but that she has not been in her daughter's class.

Lt. Rick Armendariz with Modesto Police confirmed officers were called to investigate inappropriate comments written on paper. He would not specify what the comments were.

Armendariz said officers talked to the child and her parents and determined there wasn't anything criminal going on and handed the case back to the school district.
