Marysville mother arrested after child is discovered in 3 feet of garbage

MARYSVILLE - Police say they have arrested the mother of a 5 year old girl after she was found in an apartment surrounded by 3 feet of garbage on Friday morning.

The Marysville Police Department was called to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of E. 22nd St. on a report of a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived to the home they spoke with the female resident who told police that an incident had not occurred at the home.

Upon further investigation, officers went inside the apartment to check on the well being of the 5 year old girl inside. When officers entered the unit they reported seeing every room filled with garbage and waste approximately 3 feet tall.

Officers took the girl from the apartment and notified Yuba County Child Protective Services. Yuba County CPS is conducting their own investigation and has taken the girl into custody.

Based on the investigation the mother of the girl, 41-year-old Alyson Leonard, was arrested for child endangerment. She was booked into the Yuba County Jail.
