CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. - One man was killed and another arrested during an altercation with police in Citrus Heights Thursday morning.

According to Officer Brian Fritsch of the Citrus Heights Police Dept., officers were called to the area of Debbie Ann Ct. and Glen Alta Way around 2 a.m. after a neighbor was alerted by the sound of a vehicle pulling up on the street. When the resident looked outside, he saw a pick-up truck pull up and stop on the street. According to the witness' report, one individual then got out of the truck, approached a parked car in a neighbor's driveway and tried to get inside.

The first officer arrived on scene and contacted the man who remained inside the pickup truck. At some point during the encounter, a confrontation occurred during which the officer, "fearing for his life," fired his weapon and struck the man, said Fritsch.

The officer applied medical aid to the wounded individual until he was able to be taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Friday, the Sacramento County coroner identified the man as 20-year-old Hunter Todd of Roseville.

Additional officers arrived at the scene and located the second individual inside the parked vehicle in the driveway.  He was arrested at the scene on charges of vehicle tampering, Fritsch said.

Detectives were called investigate.

The officer who shot Todd was placed on administrative leave per standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting.

The name of the second suspect has not been released.
