CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - A 3-year-old boy died after being struck by a car where Lawrence Avenue intersects Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

Citrus Heights police Lt. Gary Hendricks said the child was transported to a local hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Tuesday, the Sacramento County Coroner's Office confirmed the child as Kameron Collins of Citrus Heights.

Hendricks said it wasn't clear yet if the boy was on foot, in a stroller or even with anyone. Police investigators do know the child had been in the center median and was moving west in the southbound lanes where a southbound 2004 Kia sedan struck him.

The driver, a man, stopped and was cooperating with police.

Hendricks said investigators made contact with the child's family.

Both directions of Sunrise between Woodmore Oaks Drive and Sun Hill Drive were closed until nearly midnight for the investigation.

The accident took place at approximately 5:30 Monday evening.
