COLUMBIA, Calif. - A man was arrested Sunday evening after he allegedly forced his way into a Columbia restaurant and lit a Christmas tree on fire.

A release by the Tulomne County Sheriff's Office stated that deputies were dispatched to the City Hotel in response to a call of a man causing a disturbance and lighting something on fire around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies saw firefighters battling a fire in the Columbia House Restaurant on Main St. and investigated.

Witnesses at the restaurant identified Daenon Vincent Brewer, 21, of Tuolumne City, as the culprit behind the fire.

While speaking with Brewer about the incident, deputies say they noticed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance.

After investigating the incident further, deputies determined Brewer had forced his way into the restaurant through the front door and lit the tree on fire, according to the release.

Brewer was subsequently arrested and charged with arson, burglary, violating probation, drunk in public, and possession of marijuana.
