WOODLAND, Calif. - A 24-year-old man is recovering after being attacked with a machete in the parking lot of a Woodland apartment complex Sunday morning, according to police.
Witness Ryan Gomez said the attack came out of the blue. He was dropping off his friend around 1 a.m. at an apartment complex when a stranger came at his friend, swinging a machete.
Gomez says the suspect struck his friend, Joseph Mendoza, in the head.
"He started swinging again and I grabbed him. He hits me with it, and I start prying his fingers until he let it go," said Gomez.
Gomez then rushed Mendoza to the hospital where doctors said he was expected to survive his head injuries.
The suspected attacker was described as a light-skinned man, 5'6'' tall, weighing 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white-hooded jacket and dark jeans.
