SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento law enforcement Chaplain Mindi Russell, who has responded to many public emergencies, suggests:

* Limit young children's exposure to media reports of the tragedy.

* If and when children see the events, watch together and talk about just what the children can understand. Reassure them.

In addition, from the FBI and U.S. Department of Justice:

* Maintain family routines, particularly around meals, bedtimes, and scheduled social and leisure activities.

* Be especially patient with your children, your spouse and yourself. Hug them and tell them you love them.

* Expose them to stories about heroes, volunteers and public servants. This may help to counteract some of the negative event(s).

In remembrance of the 27 lives lost and families forever changed at Sandy Hook Elementary School, St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Carmichael has planned a vigil Friday at 7 p.m. The church is located at 2140 Mission Avenue.
