Eight apartment units were damaged in a fire at a Carmichael apartment building
CARMICHAEL, Calif. - Eight apartment units were heavily damaged in a fire at a Carmichael apartment building Thursday evening.
Sacramento Metro Fire crews arrived at the apartment building at 5101 Hackberry Lane around 5:44 p.m. to find flames coming out of two upstairs units.
The fire started in the kitchen in one of the units while a male resident was cooking; he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, but the extent of his injuries is unclear. A firefighter suffered inhalation and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Around 6 p.m., crews were able to get the fire under control, but not before the fire spread to six other apartment units. The fire spread to an SUV and a sedan that were parked alongside the building.
Eight families were displaced by the fire. Red Cross representatives are expected to arrive on scene to help the families.
