SACRAMENTO, CA - After a competitive playoff run only 8 teams remain fighting for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D I-IV Championship titles: DI - (5) Granite Bay at (3) Oak Ridge, D-II (1) Folsom at (3) Elk Grove, D-III (1) Oakdale at (2) Vista del Lago and D-IV (8) Escalon at (6) Central Catholic.
For the Division One championship game, the reigning champion, Granite Bay Grizzlies look to defend their title from the Oak Ridge Trojans. The Grizzlies specialize in a powerful running offense, averaging 249 rushing yards per game. Senior running back, John Cooley leads the team with 1,225 yards and 12 touchdowns. Trojan offense on the other hand features a very balance effort with an average of 178 passing yards and 180 rushing yards per game. Senior quarterback Jason Samuels has passed for a total of 2,290 yards, netting 26 touchdowns. The game kicks-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Sac State.
The Division Two Championship game is the Elk Grove Thundering Herd versus the Folsom Bulldogs. This year's Folsom team features an explosive offense, averaging 366 passing yards per game. Sophomore quarterback sensation, Jake Browning has led the team this season totaling 4,763 yards with 58 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Elk Grove plays a quite different offense averaging 330 rushing yards per game. Senior running back Robert Frazier leads the team with 2,079 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. The game kicks-off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sac State.
For the Division Three Championship game, the Oakdale Mustangs will take on the Vista del Lago Eagles. The Oakdale Mustangs look to rebound after losing to Del Oro last year in the title match. However, the Eagles feature an impressive offense averaging nearly 220 passing yards per game. The Eagles sophomore quarterback, Matt Jimison has totaled 2,490 passing yards per game netting 37 touchdowns along the way. The game kicks-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Lincoln(Stk.) High School.
For the Division Four Championship game, the Escalon Cougars will play the Central Catholic Raiders. Escalon has worked all season to be back in this position after losing to Hilmar in last year's championship game. The Cougars feature a fairly rush-heavy offense with an average of 288 rushing yards per game. Senior running back, Nathan Chunn has a total of 2,154 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. On the other side of the field, the Raiders share a similar offense with an average of 272 rushing yards per game. Ray Lomas IV leads the team with 1,650 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns. The game kicks-off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Lincoln(Stk) High School.
