CARMICHAEL, CA - A two-alarm fire started in a vacant store and continued to destroy a strip mall on Saturday night.

Sacramento Metro Fire received the call around 11:15 p.m. of a fire at the 6300 block of Fair Oaks Blvd. When crews arrived on scene they found thick smoke blowing out the front of the vacant home appliance store. Flames and smoke were also coming through the roof of the building.

Fire crews quickly attacked the fire from the front, back and above. It was a short time later that the roof of the vacant building collapsed. Fortunately, the crew's quick thinking allowed them to position themselves in a safe location. No one was injured in this fire.

The fire department says that the aggressive firefighting allowed crews to get the fire quickly contained. The florist next door sustained minor smoke and fire damage and the restaurant also in the strip mall was not damaged.

Damage to the businesses was estimated to be $300,000 worth of property.

The cause of the fire was determined to be arson. Metro Fire asks that anybody with information regarding this fire call the Arson Tip Line at 916-859-3775
