LODI, CA - Authorities are looking into the death of a man taken into custody by Lodi police Wednesday.
According to police Lt. Chris Piombo, 43-year-old James Romero was arrested on suspicion of trespassing in a Lodi residence at approximately 5 p.m. Piombo said Romero was also wanted on a warrant for violation of probation.
Romero was booked in Lodi City Jail where he was later found unconscious, Piombo said. Officers performed CPR on Romero and he was transported to a local hospital but didn't survive.
The Lodi Police Department, San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office and San Joaquin County Sheriff-Coroner's Office are investigating Romero's death.
