Shell casings found at scene of south Sacramento shooting.
SACRAMENTO, CA - A man was shot and injured in a south Sacramento neighborhood Wednesday night.
Witnesses called police and reported hearing multiple gunshots near 14th Avenue and 45th Street around 9 p.m., Sacramento police Sgt. Michael Hijht said.
When police arrived, they found the man in the intersection. He had non-life threatening injuries. Officers also found multiple shell casings near the scene.
Hijht said the man was an innocent bystander in the shooting.
"It appears to be a random shooting," Hijht said.
Police found a gun in a trash can several blocks away and are searching for the suspected gunman in the area.
This was not a drive-by shooting, Hijht said.
Late Wednesday night, officers continued to interview witnesses and canvass several blocks in the area .
