SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A California appeals court has ruled that an Arizona group can continue withholding documents related to the source of an $11 million contribution to a California political action committee while it appeals a lower court ruling.
The Third District Court of Appeal on Friday rejected a request from Attorney General Kamala Harris and the California Fair Political Practices Commission seeking to force Americans for Responsible Leadership to comply with a court order while it appeals.
A lower court ordered the Phoenix-based nonprofit to submit to an audit by the state's political watchdog agency, but the group appealed late Thursday.
California officials argued in their request that the information they are seeking is only relevant before Tuesday's election. The California commission is expected to appeal to the state Supreme Court.
