LAKE TAHOE, CA -  If you're looking for a job and you need something quick, you may want to head up to the mountains.

Thousands of seasonal jobs are up for grabs at the Tahoe area resorts, one of which is hosting a job fair on Saturday.

With less than a month to go before their big opening for the year, Sierra at Tahoe is just one of the many resorts in the area hiring seasonal help, and the resort is banking on a strong winter with a lot of snow to keep business booming.

Sierra at Tahoe has more than 300 jobs available. Some are seasonal, while others are full-time. And even the seasonal jobs could eventually become full-time positions. The resort needs a variety of workers, including ski instructors, ticket-takers, lift-operators, and employees for the food and beverage department.

"...the perks of the job are absolutely fantastic," exclaimed resort spokesman Steven Hemphill. "Get a season pass, get to ski and ride on your lunch break, it's an absolutely awesome opportunity."

Last week's snowstorm was a good start for the resort. They got more than 35 inches of snow in just three days. An encouraging sign for the season, considering last year's dry winter and its impact on the Tahoe resort community.

A spokesperson for the California Ski Industry Association told the Sacramento Bee that last year's season was way below expectations, some 20 to 40 percent.

"I think we're due for a normal winter after last year," says Sierra at Tahoe ski and snowboard instructor Booie Alward.  "I think the chances of a good winter are pretty good."

If you're good on your skis and even better with kids, maybe becoming a ski instructor is a good option. The resort is looking for up to 100 of them this season.   The pay range is anywhere from $8.50 to $15 per hour depending on experience.

And ski officials at Sierra at Tahoe say last year's event they held for hiring was a big turnout, and this year they're expecting just as big, if not bigger, considering that California's economy has not greatly improved.

The job fair at Sierra at Tahoe goes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 3. It's being held in the main lodge. Applicants are encouraged to bring their resumes and apply online beforehand at sierraattahoe.com
