Both Bay Area team improved in this week's USA Today power rankings.

Coming off a hard fought NFC West win over their biggest competitors for the division crown, the 49ers moved up two spots from 5 to 3.

The 49ers have been in the top 10 all season long, reaching as high as the top spot in the league and dipping to seventh following an upset loss in Minnesota. A win over the suddenly struggling Cardinals on Monday night probably won't do much to boost the 49ers position, but a strong outing could likely see them hold strong at 3.

The Raiders overcame a sluggish start and a dogged Jaguars team to inch up a spot to number 28 in the power poll.

Oakland has lingered among the 10 lowest ranked teams for the majority of their first six games. A win over the 32nd ranked Kansas City Chiefs this weekend wouldn't be monumental by any means, but it could move the Raiders into a first place tie in the AFC West with losses by the Broncos and Chargers.
