CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - A Citrus Heights man shot his former roommate over drugs Wednesday morning, according to police.

The shooting was reported at 9:48 a.m. on the 7700 block of Bierston Street, said Sgt. Alex Turcotte.

The 34-year-old man who was shot and the resident, Jeri Higby, 37, used to be roommates and were embroiled in an ongoing argument over a disputed amount of marijuana, Turcotte said. The ex-roommate went into the backyard of the residence to reportedly take some marijuana plants growing there and that is when he was shot by Higby, investigators believe.

The ex-roommate suffered a gunshot to his torso and was transported to a local hospital where he was expected to survive, Turcotte said.

Higby was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of assault with a firearm.
