Michaela Garecht, 9, was kidnapped from Hayward, Calif.
HAYWARD, CA (AP) - Authorities are trying to determine whether a bone fragment found in a Central Valley well is that of a 9-year-old girl who was kidnapped nearly 24 years ago.
Her mother, Sharon Murch, tells the Oakland Tribune that the 3-inch fragment is being DNA tested, but she believes it's probably her daughter's.

Michaela Garecht was kidnapped outside a Hayward market on Nov. 19, 1988.
Hayward police Lt. Roger Keener says the fragment was unearthed in a well in Linden, near Stockton, that's believed to hold victims of the so-called "Speed Freak Killers." Remains of a 16-year-old girl were found there this year.
