Jessica Rose Garcia missing from Yosemite since Friday
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK - Missing hiker, Jessica Rose Garcia, was found safe --three days after disappearing in Yosemite National Park.
Story: Woman goes missing in Yosemite National Park
Garcia, a new park employee, was last seen on Saturday morning following an orientation at Wawona Hotel. She never showed up for her first day of work.
According to Yosemite National Park officials, rescue personnel used a helicopter to airlift Garcia from the scene due to the rugged terrain in which she was found.
Yosemite officials say Garcia had sustained minor injuries, but was otherwise safe and well.
It is believed Garcia was hiking near the community of Wawona when she disappeared. She was found 2 miles off trail in a very rugged area.
"We do know she went off trail in this specific area to explore the area near the river," Yosemite National Park spokesperson Kari Cobb said.
"She seems like she's going to be alright," said Garcia's cousin Tyler Cunningham, who spoke to his cousin by phone right after her rescue. "We figured she had slipped off the trail and into the (river)bank. We heard she had fractured her femur and pelvis."
Garcia's family is relieved that she's now safe. They're grateful for the community's support and for everyone who helped with the search and rescue effort.
