MODESTO, CA - A federal police officer was arrested Friday morning in connection to a bar fight that turned fatal in late July.
According to Modesto police Lt. Rick Armendariz, the suspect Robert Moreno is a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Officer for the U.S. Department of Defense.
The incident happened at O'Malley's Bar located on Standiford Avenue in northwest Modesto in the early morning hours of July 22.
Armendariz said the group of men got into argument while outside in the bar's parking lot. The argument escalated to a fight, which is when Moreno took out his gun and shot the two men.
When officers arrived, both of the victims were rushed to a local hospital, while Moreno remained at the scene and identified himself as the shooter, Armendariz said.
One of the victims, Daryl Chargualaf, was a fellow DLA officer and later died due to complications of his gunshot wounds. The unidentified victim was eventually released from the hospital after being treated for his wounds.
On Friday morning, Modesto police investigators arrested and booked Moreno into the Stanislaus County Jail on one count of murder and another count of attempted murder.
