NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA - Sacramento County sheriff's deputies took a man off the street in North Highlands Tuesday morning on suspicion of running through yards with a gun and firing a shot.
Deputies were called to the area of Harrison Street and Myrtle Avenue just after 7:15 a.m. regarding a man walking with a gun, said sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos.
Deputies searched the area and recovered a handgun from a dumpster where the man was seen, Ramos said. Less than half an hour later, a man matching the witness descriptions of the man with the gun was seen on the 3700 block of Jonko Avenue and taken into custody by a deputy.
That man, 22-year-old Zachary Lane, struggled to escape from the deputy and the deputy fell to the ground, Ramos said. Lane, however, was controlled and put in a patrol vehicle.
Lane was taken to Sacramento County Jail on booking charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine for sale, and resisting arrest. Bail was set at $195,000.
