SACRAMENTO, CA (AP) - Proponents of an initiative that would severely restrict unions from collecting dues on paychecks for political activity are reporting a contribution of more than $4 million from a conservative action group.

The California Future Fund for Free Markets reported giving to Proposition 32 on Friday. The fund is largely financed by the American Future Fund, a "super" political action committee aimed at promoting conservative and free-market ideas.

The Sacramento Bee reports the American Future Fund has ties to Charles and David Koch, the billionaire brothers who support a variety of conservative causes.

Unions are expected to spend millions opposing the initiative, which would severely restrict their political influence. Voters have twice rejected similar efforts to pass so-called "paycheck protection" initiatives.

Supporters say the initiative also applies to corporations.
