STOCKTON , CA - One person was dead and another was critically injured after a police pursuit and crash in Stockton.
Early Sunday at 12:28 a.m., patrol officers spotted a 1999 gold Chevy Malibu speed off near El Dorado Street and the Crosstown Freeway. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over for driving at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued for two minutes northbound on Interstate 5 at speeds up to 80 mph, said Stockton police Officer Joe Silva.
Silva said, the suspect vehicle exited I-5 at the Country Club Boulevard exit and officers decided to terminate the chase. The Malibu continued northbound on Plymouth Road and seconds later, the driver lost control of the car, crashing into a utility pole near Bristol Ave.
The driver of the Malibu, Ossie Louis, 53, of Stockton was killed instantly. The male passenger suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Modesto hospital and was in critical condition, said Silva.
A multi-agency protocol team was investigating the crash.
