STOCKTON, CA - The San Joaquin County Coroner's Office released the names of two young men shot to death in separate incidents in Stockton on Monday.
Victor Manuel Jimenez, 18, of Stockton, was killed and another teen was wounded in a drive-by shooting on the 1100 block of South Commerce just before 8 Monday night. The wounded youth was in stable condition after surgery, according to Stockton police.
Earlier in the day, Jesus Virero, 19, of Stockton, died after found shot near the intersection of Airport Way and 12th Street in south Stockton. Detectives were looking into the possibility the shooting was actually several blocks away and Jimenez was a passenger in a car driven to Airport Way where police were dispatched.
Investigators were also trying to determine if the homicides were gang-related and if the Jimenez shooting and a later one that Monday night were retaliatory crimes.
