SACRAMENTO, CA - A 25-year-old man fatally shot at a Sacramento apartment complex Tuesday night was identified as Timothy Jacob Schweiss by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office.

According to Sacramento County sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos, the shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. at the Somerset Apartments at 2526 Edison Avenue.

Ramos said the victim was found in the street near the entrance of the complex with a gunshot wound to his upper body.  Paramedics arrived and transported Schweiss to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Schweiss was involved in an argument with several other men in the parking lot when shots were fired, Ramos said.

Preliminary evidence indicated Schweiss was shot in the parking lot then made his way out to the street.

Eight people were detained and being questioned as of early Wednesday afternoon, Ramos said. Deputies were also searching one of the apartment units.

Anyone having information regarding this incident was asked to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115, Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP, or send a text message tip to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000
