Mote's remains were flown to McClellan Airfield late Thursday afternoon where several hundred awaited, including a Marine honor guard.
A motorcade followed the hearse carrying Mote to Highway 50 to Latrobe/El Dorado Hills Boulevard and up Serrano Parkway. Firefighters and others paying their respects lined the overpasses.
The motorcade turned onto Silva Valley Parkway in order to pass Silva Valley Elementary and Rolling Hills Middle schools. Mote attended both schools and his father is a teacher at Rolling Hills.
"He was so proud of what he was doing, making a difference," said Russ Mote, the Marine's father. "He was very proud of the Afghans he was training, um, to detect and disarm IEDs, and, um, he just really thought they were turning the corner in that little village."
All were welcomed and encouraged to line the streets with flags and banners in support of the Mote family and to honor the sacrifice Mote and all troops make for the U.S.
