SACRAMENTO - As if a trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles wasn't agonizing enough, all computers at California DMV offices went down on Tuesday morning.
DMV spokesperson Mike Marando the computers had crashed statewide shortly after 8 a.m. because of a broken router within the network.
Nearly all of the 169 field offices were offline for about four hours. The network was back up by 12:24 p.m.
"Anytime the department experiences an issue such as this, we look at our systems, take lessons learned, and determine what is needed to make sure that we provide the best services to Californians," Marando said.
People who feel they may have to pay a late or overage fee because of Tuesday's outage will be considered on a case by case basis. Marando said they are urged to call DMV customer service at (800) 777-0133.
Driving tests were no impacted by the network outage.
